A Summer Wedding at the Surf Hotel

Lauren and Alex were a joy to work with and an absolute highlight of the 2023 wedding season! These two were all about their family and friends, and made of point of planning their Surf Hotel wedding weekend in a way that would allow everyone to relax and enjoy being together in the beautiful Colorado mountains.

Shortly after they started dating Lauren accepted a job in London, and Alex took a risk and moved with her across the pond where they lived for a couple years before Alex proposed. After deciding to move back to Colorado, they chose to have their wedding at a venue that perfectly blended the understated elegance of a European hotel with the natural beauty of the Colorado mountains. Many of their London friends flew out to celebrate, and it was super special to see friends from all over the world together in one place for Lauren and Alex.

About the Surf

We celebrated their day at the incredible Surf Hotel in Buena Vista, Colorado. Tyler and I have been to Buena Vista on multiple occasions, but we had never stumbled upon the gem that is the Surf Hotel. The Surf is a European inspired boutique hotel built on the Arkansas River in the “new” downtown BV. They have an amazing little bar called the Wesley & Rose where Tyler and I enjoyed both dinner and brunch the next morning.

As you’ll see, the Surf Hotel has an insanely gorgeous courtyard where Lauren and Alex held their ceremony. I would do just about anything to go back there during the fall when the aspen trees in the courtyard are turning! Please, someone let me photograph your fall wedding at the Surf Hotel.

Should you get a live band for your reception? Um, yes

After the ceremony we headed across the street to an open area where we had a perfect view of the collegiate peaks. Obviously Lauren and Alex rocked their wedding portraits and then we headed back inside for the best reception party ever! Lauren and Alex LOVE concerts, so it was no surprise that they invited the Soul X Band to play live music for the entire night. We ended the night with the bride and groom singing on stage with the band before running outside for the grand bubble exit.
